How to market your project

You may have the greatest idea in the world, but if you can't communicate it effectively to the right people it will go nowhere.

Last updated 5 months ago

Marketing isn't easy, but it is a reality that all project creators must face.

In this workshop, we spoke with the Co-founder of Get Based, a Bitcoin marketing and consulting firm, about why marketing is important and how creators should approach it.

Why Marketing is important

  • Communication is Crucial: Marketing is essential for bridging the gap between great ideas and their audience. It ensures your ideas reach the right communities, especially in niche spaces like Bitcoin.

  • Solves a Problem: At its core, marketing is about identifying a relatable problem and presenting a compelling solution.

  • Drives Action: Effective marketing goes beyond awareness. It inspires audiences to act—whether through donations, purchases, or engagement.

  • Builds Connection: By sharing your story and wins, marketing helps foster emotional connections with your audience, making them more likely to support your mission.

How Marketing Should Be Done

  1. Define the Problem and Solution:

    • Clearly articulate the problem your project addresses.

    • Offer a well-thought-out plan showing how your project solves this problem.

  2. Understand Your Audience:

    • Tailor your communication to the audience's knowledge and interests.

    • Use platforms frequented by your target audience (e.g., Twitter or Nostr for Bitcoiners).

  3. Leverage Social Media Strategically:

    • Use native content (e.g., directly upload videos and images instead of linking to external sites).

    • Avoid deboosting by using images or comments for links instead of embedding them in main posts.

  4. Consistency and Transparency:

    • Post updates regularly to keep your audience engaged.

    • Be transparent about your goals, how funds will be used, and your progress.

  5. Storytelling Matters:

    • Share your journey authentically to create an emotional connection.

    • Celebrate every milestone—people love to feel involved in your success.

  6. Offer Value:

    • Create perks or rewards that make supporters feel appreciated and part of the story.

  7. Study Successful Campaigns:

    • Analyze what has worked for others and adapt those strategies to your project.

  8. Use Modern Tools:

    • AI tools like ChatGPT can help craft compelling pitches, tweets, or scripts.

  9. Adapt Marketing to Project Type:

    • For finite projects, create urgency and scarcity around deadlines.

    • For ongoing initiatives, maintain an evergreen strategy with consistent updates.

  10. Iterate and Improve:

  • Be open to feedback, experiment with approaches, and refine your strategies over time.
